Outpatient Rehab: Why Rehab Centers Work
Relapse Prevention: Why It’s An Important Part Of Inpatient And Outpatient Rehab
When looking into outpatient rehab or inpatient rehabilitation a good thing to check is what the rehab’s program is when it comes to relapse prevention. While it might seem odd that a rehab could focus on relapse it’s actual a crucial part of the recovery process and the information taught is essential for sobriety.
Addicts can relapse. While you should go into recovery thinking you are going to relapse you need to know the warning signs of relapse and how to deal with them so that you don’t relapse and what to do when or if you do relapse. A lot of times when an addict relapses they have so much shame and instead of going to a meeting and telling someone that they’ve hit a snag they hide it and it becomes a much bigger snag and now instead of going to a meeting they are headed back to rehab for another stint. They feel like they’ve failed their friends their family like they’ll never kick addiction it can really mess with an addict’s long term goal of sobriety if they aren’t prepared for relapse.
Rehab Centers: They Work When You Use Them Correctly
Rehab centers work. They work wonders every day. The reason rehab works better than say when an addict decides on their own toe quit drinking or doing drugs is because there is an acknowledgement and understanding that comes with rehab. An addict has to take ownership of their addiction problem. They learn in rehab a lot about addiction and a lot about their own addiction. Having to sit in a room and talk about your problems and your problems with alcohol or drugs make it a little more real than say if you just decide to stop drinking for awhile. You never really say, “I’m an alcoholic.”
What Is Relapse?
Relapse in regard to addiction is when a person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol gets clean and then goes back to drinking or doing drugs. It can be a onetime thing or it can last a week, a month a year. It really depends on the addict and the people around the addict.
