It’s normal to feel like sending your child or your spouse or your parent to a drug rehabilitation centers facilities is extreme. However, you’ve tried talking to them countless times and each time they promise they’ve quit or they’re quitting you catch them using again. It’s also normal to worry that they are going to get angry at you if you try and get them into treatment but sometimes you need to realize that treatment is their only hope of beating this. Rehab centers are not as scary as you think. You may find visiting one overwhelming but keep in mind addiction has many different faces.
Family Intervention: Even Family Can Be Tough
Even when a family comes together for a family intervention they can be tough. Everyone has a different story to tell about the addict. Some do not think they addict is as extreme as people are saying. They think everyone is overreacting and that it’s not as bad as it is. The best way to ensure that an intervention runs smoothly is to iron out those thoughts ahead of time. You really don’t want conflicting feelings and statements if you can help it. You want people to be on the same page because even on the same page the addict will try and turn people against each other.
Gambling Intervention: A Serious Illness
A gambling intervention is a serious illness. It’s not a laughing matter. Just ask the woman whose husband sold their house, signed over their deed and everything at the eleventh hour in hopes to win it all back and more. Ask the husband whose wife says she’ll be right home after work and doesn’t come home until three in the morning because she’s been gambling like crazy. It’s an addiction. Yes, for some people it’s a way to relieve stress, it’s a fun time with the boys but for other people it’s literally an itch that they need to scratch and that they can’t see or think clearly when they are in the hot seat.
