Drug Intervention Steps – Leading a Group Intervention
Drug Intervention Steps – Do Your Homework
Of the many drug intervention steps in preparing a confronting group meeting, probably the first step is to do research. You should be aware of what you are undertaking when you commit to the decision to put together an intervention. Find out what the best methods are, what kind of treatment you can afford to give the person in question, and prepare everything beforehand so that it all runs smoothly. The most important thing is to be educated about the process and all the subtleties associated with it before you jump in.
Family Intervention – Gathering Family Members
If you decide to lead an exclusive family intervention, and avoiding including outside friends, gather the ones that are the most invested in their relationship with the addict. Find family members that you can trust not to tell the person what you are planning and who are willing to cooperate and be on the same page with you. Have a meeting of sorts prior to the actual intervention where you discuss the addict and how their actions have affected everyone. Prepare some things to say that you think will sway the person into accepting their problem and going to the treatment center you have found.
The Final Step and the Goal – Drug Abuse Rehab
Most often in a drug intervention the ultimate goal of the meeting is checking the person into drug abuse rehab. If, by the end of the intervention, the addict admits to their problem and gets treatment in a rehab facility then you have been successful. If you have found the right rehab center and the person commits to the program then you can rest assured that you have done the right thing by organizing an intervention. After they have completed rehab, make sure they stay on track and continue attending 12 step meetings; they will be grateful that you care enough to want them to recover.
