If you’ve asked yourself a few times if you have a drinking or drug problem then you clearly have had some experiences that have scared you. Usually this is the beginning of the end of your relationship with alcohol or drugs and you probably need to get some substance abuse help. It’s not easy admitting you have a problem to yourself, to your friends and family and to your employer. While you don’t have to admit it to all those people if you don’t want to, you do need to admit it to yourself. Asking the question am I an alcoholic or a drug addict? is a sign that you have been displaying signs to yourself that you have a problem.
Substance treatment isn’t the end of your life and a lot of times that’s the thinking an addict goes through when they run through the reasons in their head to not admit to themselves and to friends or family that they are an alcoholic or a drug addict. They worry that by getting help from a substance abuse rehab that they have to give up everything that is fun about their life. That’s not the case, there is a lot of living to do, and the great thing about it is you get to live it clear headed instead of hung over all the time.
